Online Games
for Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers, Kindergarteners, and even
Grade School |
 |
Our online games and learning activities are a great way to spend
quality time with your child. Each group of activities—for infants-toddlers, preschoolers-kindergarteners, and grade school students —requires a different level of keyboarding
skill: for example, infant activities require little more than eager
hands batting at the keyboard, while activities for toddlers and
preschoolers involve a bit more thought, planning, and dexterity. Have
fun, and let your child advance through them at his or her own pace!

Invite your child to sit on your lap, or pull up your chair next to your
child's and enjoy these online games and learning activities together: |

Is Your Child Ready for Computers?

|
|
 |
It’s all about making things happen!
Causing a reaction gives a baby’s mind something new to think about --
“Hey, if you do this, look what happens!” And that dawning realization
of being able to make something happen gives babies a sense of
empowerment and accomplishment. In these games, all your baby has to do
is hit keys to be rewarded and inspired by on-screen reactions –
reactions complete with bright colors, simple patterns, stimulating
sounds and moving objects, all the things infants find fascinating as
their senses emerge. Beyond introducing the magic of cause-and-effect,
these games also exercise motor skills and enhance cognitive development
as baby learns to anticipate a response from the game.

Introducing Computers
As a start, young children
often enjoy tapping on the keyboard to get a reaction from the computer.
As children get older they often enjoy picking out the letters of their name on the keyboard, or
dictating a story and printing it out. Children also enjoy using the mouse to click on objects on the
screen. There are many popular interactive sites for young children which
help them learn numbers,
letters, colors, and shapes, as they get older reading and math.
Are Computers Dangerous?
A computer emits less
radiation than a television. Since most of the radiation is emitted from the
computer's back and sides, it's best to have the back of the monitor facing
a wall. Children should sit about 18 inches from the screen and use a desk
light to help reduce glare.
Computer Overload?
Like television or videos, a
computer can become a sort of electronic babysitter. If your child is using
a computer for long periods, encourage him to take a break every 15 to 30
minutes. Computers are no substitute for the hands-on experience of the
world that a child gets through play. |

Childproof Keyboards
Many people we have talked to
are afraid that their child will damage their computer's keyboard by banging
on it. For our money, Memorex's virtually indestructible and
spillproof keyboard is money well spent.
Kid size mice
Generally used by frequent
fliers, you can find child size mice in the travel section of your local
computer or electronics store. One we are particularly fond of is the
Targus Ulra Mini Optical Mouse.
